Okanogan Country is a geologic crossroads
Rockhounding opportunities abound in Okanogan Country, which is a geologic crossroads.
Carved basalt - created by great flows of water at the end of the last ice age - form spectacular cliffs throughout central Washington. Parts of two geologic plates converge in the Okanogan Highlands and, because the area used to be the edge of the continent, many fossils are present.
